Timothy Winey

"Many of the principles of vibration, harmony, attunement and harmonious geometries that Timothy Winey gleaned from his studies of stringed instruments have been incorporated into his golf designs."

Timothy Winey was born in Omaha Nebraska in 1966 and moved to California at one year of age. He comes from a long line of innovators (it seems to run in the family on his fathers side). Jim Winey (Timothy’s father’s 1st cousin) is the inventor of Magnapan speakers www.magnepan.com.

Winey is a very rare name and as such, most, if not all, Winey’s are descendent from 1 Winey who was a notable figure in Colonial America. Like his cousin Jim Winey, Timothy fell in love with classical music at an early age and began violin studies in elementary school (his elementary school violin teacher Virginia Gurnea, was a student of Naoum Blinder (Blinder was Isaac Stern’s principal teacher) www.sonyclassical.com/artists/stern/.

He went on to study music (violin) and educational studies at both California State University Fresno and California State University Sacramento where he ultimately graduated. Timothy studied violin throughout his teens with Werner Lywen www.wernerlywen.com and later at Sacramento with William Barbini where he (Timothy) played principal 2nd violin in the university symphony orchestra (William Barbini was the Concertmaster of the Sacramento Symphony at the time). Timothy took a break from his violin studies in 1990 to study violin making from Edward Campbell, one of the top modern makers in the world www.thechimneysviolinshop.com In 1995, Timothy was invited to teach violin at a music conservatory in Portugal as well as play in a small chamber orchestra. He lived there from 1995-1999 with his Portuguese wife and son. He was then offered a position to teach for the Department of Defense, which is how he landed in England.

Many of the principles of vibration, harmony, attunement and harmonious geometries that he gleaned from his studies of stringed instruments have been incorporated into his golf designs. As long as he can remember, Timothy has been inventing. Some of his inventions include:

  1. Hydraulic exercise equipment
  2. Flotation devices for water exercise
  3. Computerized reading instruction and testing
  4. Ultra realistic recording and playback devices

Timothy had the good fortune to have grown up, literally, on a golf course. The Visalia Country Club (home course to Jerry Heard) provided much golfing diversion for Timothy growing up, and his father, a retired dentist, instilled in him, a lasting love for the game. Timothy continues to reside in Suffolk, England with his wife and son.
