The Stradivari putter is packed with innovation. Its unique pyramidal geometry:
- aids in controlling vibration,
- enhances depth perception for superior targeting, and
- employs strategic weight distribution making off-center hits feel and behave like anything but.
Experimental psychology has long established that objects with certain geometries can have a calming effect on the nervous system. We have incorporated some of these geometric principles into our heads, helping to promote a more relaxed, and hence natural and repeatable, putting technique.
One of the more exciting features of the Stradivari design is our Optical Illusion Alignment System. A common optical illusion is that of converging angular lines causing parallel lines to appear curved. Notice the two identical rectangles, one of which has converging angular lines (chevrons) causing the left side of the rectangle to appear slightly concave and the right side convex. This illusion is actually a very sophisticated alignment/targeting tool insofar as golfers only need focus on hitting the bottom of the arc or “bowl” instead of trying to square, unnaturally, to alignment lines (shown with an arrow) to the
actual intended target line. The vast majority of golfers we tested reported it being much easier to hit the ball at the bottom of a perceived “bowl” (concave surface) than orient alignment lines to the ball at impact. We discovered that this was due, in part, to the golfer’s distorted perception of “squareness” to the intended target line when using alignment lines as guides while the putter was in motion. In other words, alignment lines may be somewhat useful when the eyes are directly over them at address but quickly become a distorted reference point when they move through the golfer’s field of vision during the stroke.
Both the Stradivari and Amati designs employ:
- Specific geometries conducive to attenuating unwanted vibration,
- Strategic weight distribution for more forgiving miss hits and
- proprietary face texturing for enhanced feedback and skid reduction. Skid length is positively correlated with putts going off line; the longer the skid, the greater the likelihood of putts veering off the intended target line.
During controlled robot testing with conventional heads attached to Torpedo shafts, putt skid length was reduced an average of 20% across the board. The complex geometry and proprietary face texturing of our head designs combined with the Torpedo shaft, reduced skid even further; the reasons for this additional skid reduction are due to the features already listed and also to some trade secrets, which we are not yet at liberty to declassify.
Technically, both designs perform equally well and as such, deciding which one to purchase is really down to individual taste. In short, the “Torpedo effect” is fully realized with either design.
In keeping with our dedication to precision and craftsmanship, we have selected Star grips for their unique precision and quality (the only grips still made in the USA), and have tuned our shafts to their specifications. For this reason, we are including Star grips with each purchase and recommend you give them a try before giving any thought to switching. If you do choose to change grips, they will, no doubt, somewhat alter the performance parameters of the putter; so if you do change, try to ensure that the new grips come as close as possible to the Star grip's specifications.
You have a choice between two types of Star grips for your putter:
